September 2008 passenger figures

Birmingham International Airport handled 984,245 passengers
during September, including 687,139 scheduled passengers and
297,106 charter passengers spread across the two passenger
terminals; an increase of 1.5% over the previous year
.
Peter Vella, Birmingham International Airport's Business
Development Director, said: "September saw an increase in
passengers travelling through the Airport compared against
the same month last year, which again re-affirms the reputation
of Birmingham Airport as the region's gateway to the world
.
With the Airport celebrating its busiest ever month in August
and with a number of exciting new routes launching in the coming
weeks and months, there has never been a better time for people
to fly from their local airport"
.
In September, growth was achieved on EU routes of 14.5%, while
the Irish Republic saw an increase of 7.2%
.
Scheduled routes that experienced growth in September includes:
Bratislava (+808.4%), Stuttgart (+617%), Larnaca (+86.6%),
Inverness (+69.6%), Marseille (+52.5%), Milan (+50.3%),
Ercan (+45.2%), Ibiza (+44%), Dusseldorf (+32.2%),
Copenhagen (+20.2%), Lisbon (+13.3%), Krakow (+8.8%),
Waterford (+6%), Amsterdam (+5.5%), Murcia (+5.4%),
Hanover (+4.4%), Dundee (+3.7%), Paris (+3.4%),
Faro (+3%), Zurich (+2.8%) and Arrecife (+2.8%)
.
Charter traffic which experienced growth were:
Egypt (+73.1%), Croatia (+24.5%), Madeira (+24.2%),
Mexico (+20.9%), Dominican Republic (+14.5%) and Bulgaria (+5%)
