Turkish Airlines today, Tuesday 2 April 2013, celebrated the launch of its new schedule from
Birmingham Airport. It is increasing its daily flight programme from seven to ten flights each
week to Istanbul and beyond to the 221 global destinations in the airline’s ever-growing network

To celebrate the occasion, the airline specially arranged for its 200th aircraft, a Boeing 737-900,
to operate the afternoon Istanbul service. Passengers were also treated to performances by
The Orchestra of the Swan, cultural partner of Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines’ 200th aircraft arrives at Birmingham Airport to celebrate the carrier’s increased
flight programme from Birmingham and is welcomed with a water canon salute
This development means that the number of flights a week to Istanbul and beyond with Turkish
Airlines has doubled since starting operations from Birmingham in December 2008. This is due
to both the high demand from the Midlands to Istanbul as well as the two hundred plus global
destinations available from Turkish Airlines Istanbul hub, throughout Europe, the Far East, the
Middle East and Africa

Selim Ozturk, General Manager for Turkish Airlines at Birmingham, said: "Since starting flights
from Birmingham in 2008, we have been very grateful for the demand that is in the Midlands
region and I’m very proud of the growth that we have achieved"

"The extra flights offer even more choice than ever thanks to our growing network from
Istanbul, which now spans across 98 countries, providing 221 destinations worldwide for
the Midlands’ business and leisure traveller"

Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, said: "We are delighted that Turkish Airlines has
gone from strength to strength and has committed so much into making its Birmingham
operation such a success. Passengers booking with Turkish Airlines not only get value for
money, award winning service, modern aircraft and excellent punctuality, but also have
access to 98 countries. These extra flights give greater choice and flexibility for those
wanting to reach Istanbul and beyond.”

Turkish Airlines preserved its title of Best Airline in Europe and scored a resounding
success at the 2012 Skytrax World Airline Awards. Travellers voted the airline as the
"Best Airline in Europe", the second year running and it was named by Skytrax as the
winner in the categories, "Best Airline in Southern Europe", "World’s Best Premium
Economy Class Airline Seat" for its Comfort Class seats and "World’s 2nd Best Catering
in Economy Class"
