December 2013 passengers at Birmingham Airport

Birmingham Airport handled 574,854 passengers during December 2013
- an increase of 8.0% on the previous year
 
As a result BHX handled 9,119,709 passengers in 2013 an increase of 2.3% on 2012
- this is the first year since 2009 that the passenger numbers have exceeded 9 million

Dublin, Dubai, Amsterdam, Belfast and Paris

Top 5 charter/IT routes from Birmingham in 2013 -
Dalaman, Palma, Tenerife, Enfidha and Arrecife

An excellent end to the year! Again some good figures from Turkish Airlines - up 45.0% -
and Emirates - up 9.8% - who both operate in many of the same Asian markets also now
served by the new Air India service to Amritsar and Delhi. The IT/package tour leisure
market also continued to improve with passengers up 12% in the month of December   
  
Paul Kehoe, the Airport’s CEO, said: "2013 has been a fantastic year for us in many ways.
In terms of passenger numbers, we’ve seen consecutive growth in the past eight months,
which has led to our best yearly performance since 2009"

"Helped by a strong December, over nine million people have decided to take advantage of the
Airport’s world-class facilities and its growing network of flights throughout the past 12 months"
 
"We are now looking to build on this success in 2014, which will see the opening of our longer
runway and with it, the capability to serve more long haul destinations than ever before"

During December significant growth was achieved
on scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Stuttgart 89.2%, Milan 81.7%, Funchal 65.4%,
Istanbul 45.0%, Belfast 40.2%, Waterford 34.0%,
Brussels 20.1%, Dublin 17.5% and Dubai 9.8%


Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Barbados 70.2%, Gambia 21.4% and Austria 8.9% 
    
Scheduled traffic accounted for 87.9% of the total
passenger traffic in December whilst charter passengers
made up the remaining 12.1%
