British Airways flights to Florence, Ibiza, Malaga and Palma take off from Birmingham Airport

Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport pictured with the crew on the inaugural British Airways flight to Florence,
Captain Richard Humphreys, first officer Claudia Zonneyville and cabin crew Rina Ottsman and Michael Fish

British Airways has returned to Birmingham Airport - when flight BA7025 took off from Birmingham
Airport for Florence, Italy on Saturday 20 May 2017 it marked a significant return to regional flying
for British Airways. It was the first of four new regional routes launched from the Midlands this
weekend and the first time British Airways' colours have been seen at the airport for a decade

Birmingham Airport ensured there was a party atmosphere for the first flight by celebrating with
a huge cake showcasing the four new destinations operated by British Airways

The airline last flew from Birmingham in 2007 when the regional airline business was sold to Flybe,
although Vueling and Iberia Express, subsidiaries of British Airways' parent company, International
Airlines Group (IAG), started up services and Aer Lingus has continued to operate to Dublin from
Birmingham Airport since 1949

The inaugural British Airways service to Florence was the first of the new routes to take off followed
by flights to the popular Spanish sunspots of Malaga, Ibiza and Palma providing more than 17,000
seats to the sun from Birmingham this summer. Flights are operated at weekends by modern Embraer
170 and 190 jet aircraft, with Eurotraveller and Club cabins and two abreast seating so everyone can
have either an aisle or window seat

Luke Hayhoe, British Airways' general manager commercial and customer, said: "This weekend marks
the start of a very busy summer for us in the UK regions and we are very excited to be returning to
Birmingham after a 10-year gap and after the successful launch of flights from Stansted last year"

"Florence is a brand new city to be served from Birmingham Airport and is proving to be very popular
with customers alongside our flights to three of the most sought-after Spanish destinations"

Paul Kehoe, CEO, Birmingham Airport commenting on the return said: "Today is a momentous day for
Birmingham Airport. To see the British Airways tailfin on the ground after ten years is great news for
the region and adds to the other IAG carriers already here.  The introduction of four routes for the
summer season ensures passengers have more choice on popular routes from the Airport and
additionally have the chance to visit the beautiful city of Florence, which was previously unserved"

bmi regional launches routes to Gothenburg and Nuremberg from its new Birmingham Airport base

Frank Mertens, Head of Marketing for bmi regional; Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport,
and Susie Green, Planning and Business Development Manager for bmi regional

bmi regional launched its two brand new routes from Birmingham Airport to Gothenburg and Nuremberg on
Monday 8 May 2017 - the services which will both be operated six times per week, were welcomed to their
new base at Birmingham Airport by a water arch, whilst the first passengers enjoyed a slice of celebratory cake

The Gothenburg and Nuremberg flights join the Birmingham to Graz service which started in February 2017. The
conveniently timed flights are aimed at both business and leisure travellers in the Midlands and further afield

Commenting on the new launches, Jochen Schnadt, Chief Commercial Officer from bmi regional, said: "We are
delighted to be introducing these two new flights from Birmingham as part of our ongoing growth strategy to
connect key business regions. Both Nuremberg and Gothenburg have a great deal to offer both business and
leisure customers and, as such, are already proving popular. We're excited to be bringing the bmi regional level
of quality, convenience, service and professionalism to these new routes"

Paul Kehoe, CEO, of Birmingham Airport said: "We are delighted that bmi regional has launched services to
Nuremberg and Gothenburg, two unserved destinations from Birmingham.  These new additions mean that
bmi regional now serves three routes, as it started flights to Graz earlier in the year.  So passengers now
have even more choice to fly to Germany, Sweden and Austria from their local airport"

Fares start from £79 one way for Nuremberg and £89 one way for Gothenburg. All bmi regional fares include
23kg of hold luggage, allocated seating, complimentary in-flight drinks and snacks and 30 minute check-ins
