Wednesday 21 April 2010 - Ash cloud? - Birmingham Airport is back in business!!

After clearance was granted on Tuesday evening to reopen UK
airspace the race was on to restart operations - first departure
(with passengers) from BHX on Wednesday morning was
Monarch flight ZB 402 to Faro which was operated by
Airbus A321-231 G-OZBG - well done to Monarch
for having 3 of the first 4 departures from Birmingham ....
.
.... and to Tim and Lucy from the "Express and Star" for
being on hand to catch the first departure
which earned them a copy of the "BHX Flight Guide"!!
.
Monarch Airbus A321-231 G-OZBG lifts off Runway 33 on its way
to Faro - the first departure since Thursday 15 April 2010! - the
race was then on to repatriate all the stranded passengers....
. .... Lufthansa used CityLine Embraer 195LR D-AEBB to operate
their afternoon service to Munich - its first visit to BHX - in
place of the usual Canadair CRJ 900 while....
..... Turkish Airlines laid on two extra flight to repatriate passengers
stranded in Istanbul - Airbus A321-231 TC-JRB was an evening
arrival with 321 TC-JML operating an (extra) lunchtime service

Eurocypria Boeing 737-8BK 5B-DBZ operated their
much delayed IT flight to Paphos
.
Hawker 850XP G-CERX was an overnight arrival
spending the day parked on the Elmdon apron....

operating a training flight

Loganair operated a Saab 340 charter flight to Norwich carrying
the West Browich Albion football team for their match on Saturday.

positioned in from Glasgow

Thursday 17 April 2008 - Samsung Boeing 737 BBJ HL7770 is an afternoon visitor to the Elmdon apron

Boeing BBJ HL7770 of Samsung arrived from Farnborough in
the early afternoon parking on the Elmdon apron until it
returned to Farnborough in the early evening This was the
first Korean registered to visit BHX

.Kenn Borek Twin Otter C-GKBR arrived from Brindisi on its
way back to Canada from the Maldives. After refueling at BHX
it departed to Keflavik but subsequently diverted to Stornoway
.

The airport remained closed because of the danger to flying....

Thursday 15 April 2010 - Cloud of Volcanic Ash closes Birmingham Airport!!


The danger to flying from a Cloud of Volcanic Ash drifting towards
the UK from Iceland resulted in the closure of the airspace above BHX
from 0700 stranding many passengers and aircraft at the airport....
..... with all flights for the rest of the day being cancelled
. .
.... and the media in attendance to record the days events

Turkmenistan Boeing 767-300 EZ-A700 prepares to depart for
Lakeland/Kelly AFB outside San Antonio in Texas, USA....

.... it had earlier arrived from Ashkabad, Turkmenistan, and is a
VIP/Goverment aircraft like Boeing 737-700 EZ-A007 which had
passed through BHX in the opposite direction at the start of April -

Amritsar via Bratislava before positioning out to Paris CDG

Monarch Airbus A321 G-OZBT positioned in from Manchester
to operate a service to Palma - its first visit to BHX
. Regional Fokker 100 F-GPXL operated the early morning
Air France service from/to Paris CDG in place of the usual
CityJet Avro RJ 85 - its second visit to BHX in a week

Saturday 14 April 2012 - ATR 72 SX-BII departs to Sonderborg after parking at BHX

Former Olympic Airlines ATR 72-212 SX-BII which had arrived
at BHX back on Thursday 5 January 2012 for long term parking
under the care of flybe departed to Sonderborg in Denmark as
"Southern Cross 1231" - fellow ATR 72 SX-BIG is also expected
to depart Birmingham in the next few days

morning diversion from RAF Lyneham....

before departing off Runway 15 to Brussels
