Dash 8Q-400 G-PTHB - the next aircraft due to go to Olympic -
arrived at 1300 from Reykjavik at the end of its delivery flight
from Canada as the "BE 040". This aircraft was originally planned
to be G-FLBG with flybe but it will now painted in Olympic colours
at Norwich and become SX-OBB in due course

Breaking news - second Airbus A380 to
visit Birmingham in September 2009!!

Airbus have just announced that an company Airbus A380 F-WWOW
will be making an approach and go around fly through at Bimingham
on Saturday 5 September 2009 as part of a UK tour on that date!!
.
The aircraft is provisionally scheduled time at BHX at 1540!!
.
The aircraft will also be visiting Edinburgh (1340), Prestwick (1400),
Port Rush for an Air Show (1420), Belfast City (1440) and Broughton
(1508) before return to Toulouse via Birmingham
.

Airbus A380 returning for a UK visit 5 September 2009
.
The world’s largest commercial airliner, the 525-seat Airbus A380, is returning
to the UK for a brief flying visit on September 5. The iconic aircraft will make its
first-ever visits to Scotland and Northern Ireland, and brief appearances over
England and Wales, during its time here.
.
The A380 is scheduled to first perform approach-and-go fly-throughs at the
airports in the capital city of Edinburgh and Prestwick, Scotland; followed by
a flying display at the Northern Ireland International Airshow at Portrush,
and a fly-through at Belfast City Airport in Northern Ireland. It will also fly
over Airbus’ facility in Broughton, North Wales, where Airbus employees will
be celebrating the company’s founding 40 years ago, and over Birmingham
International Airport in England.

Tom Willliams, Airbus Executive Vice President of Programmes said: “We
are proud to welcome the A380 back to the UK, and that it will be visiting
Scotland and Northern Ireland for the first time. This visit demonstrates

Thursday 27 August 2009 - Austrian charters arrives for Aston Villa's "Europa League" tie

Lauda Air Boeing 737-800 OE-LNT was the last of the three charters
to arrive from Vienna for tonight's Aston Villa v Rapid Vienna UEFA
Europa League match - it had been preceded by....

All three aircraft parked up on the 70's stands joining Lauda 73H
OE-LNR which had arrived on Wednesday morning. While Villa
won the match they lost the tie on away goals so are now out of
European football for the current season

Emirates Boeing 777-300ER A6-EBS operated their lunchtime service
from Dubai and became the first aircraft to park on Stand 54C which
has two airbridges - BHX's new International Pier goes "World Class"!!

is currently BHX based

Wednesday 26 August 2009 - Lauda Air Boeing 737 OE-LNR operates charter for Rapid Vienna

Lauda Air Boeing 737-8Z9 OE-LNR was a mid morning arrival
from Vienna operating a charter flight for the Aston Villa v Rapid
Vienna Europa League match - the aircraft parked on the 80's
stands and is staying until after the match on Thursday evening

Via Tauro Metro II EC-JIP operated a cargo charter from Ostrava
on Tuesday evening spending the day parked on the Elmdon apron
before departing in the late afternoon
.
Ryanair Boeing 737-8AS EI-EFP operated their lunchtime service
from Dublin - its first visit to BHX. It wears additional ".... say Yes
to Europe" titles in support of the second Irish referendum on the
EU Lisbon Treaty that will now be held in October 2009

Monday 24 August 2009 - Apron Control Tower

The Apron Control Tower which has been a feature of BHX's skyline
since the current Terminal opened in 1984 finally succumbed to the
demolition team working on the new International Pier....
.

.... being pulled apart by a "claw"....
.

.... and loaded into contractors trucks and removed from the site
.
By the end of the day only skeleton of the tower remained....
.
.... and BHX's skyline had been changed again as work continues
on the completion of the new International Pier
.
The same view in 1988 when the Apron Control Tower used to
dominate the skyline and the aircraft came from a earlier age!
