.... of the new ATC Tower at Birmingham Airport on Monday 17 March 2014

.... both aircraft had flown in from Booker before breaking off to land on Runway 33

.... first in was Chipmunk 22 G-BCPU "Chiltern 1" which wears a British Airways scheme

.... followed in by Chipmunk 22 G-HFRH "Chiltern 2" which is marked as Royal Navy WK635

The flypast had been organised to celebrate Anthony Hatch's - second from right....

.... time as a NATS - National Air Traffic Services - Watch Manager at Birmingham Airport

After a visit to the Elmdon apron Chipmunk 22 G-BCPU "Chiltern 1" and....

.... Chipmunk 22 G-HFRH "Chiltern 2"

.... were on their way back to Kemble - G-BPCU - and Turweston - G-HFRH

.... with a "Chiltern Classic Flight" formation departure off Runway 33

February 2014 passengers at Birmingham Airport‏‏‏

Birmingham Airport handled 580,453 passengers during February 2014
- an increase of 8.5% on the previous year

Another excellent result - and the third month in a row where the increase
in passenger numbers has exceeded 8% - with long haul passengers up
20.7% in the month

While Turkish Airlines - up 43.4% - and Emirates - up 11.6% - again reported
good results its was an improved performance on many frequently flown routes
operated by a resurgent flybe that underpinned the overall performance

flybe have recently announced a major expansion at Birmingham for the summer
2014 season when they will add a further 7 new routes and will be basing three
additional aircraft at the airport

The summer will also see other new scheduled routes previously announced
including Aegean Airlines - to Athens - and Biman Bangladesh Airlines who
operated a series of flights during the month to mark the retirement of their
last Douglas DC10 - to Dhaka and New York JFK - while China Southern Airlines
have recently announced a series of Airbus A330 charter flights from Beijing

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, said, "This continued
passenger growth demonstrates that more travellers are enjoying the range
of services and facilities offered by the airport and the hassle free experience
of getting to and through the terminal" 

During February significant growth was achieved
on scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Waterford 301.8%, Chambery 162.8%, Fuerteventura 126.6%,
Arrecife 112.9%, Stuttgart 84.9%, Funchal 77.3%.
Hannover 61.2%, Istanbul 43.2%, Belfast International 39.2%,
Tenerife 24.4%, Milan 24.0% and Aberdeen 23.6% 
  
Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Portugal 49.3%, Barbados 42.9% and Finland 20.0% 
  
Scheduled traffic accounted for 88.7% of the total
passenger traffic in February whilst charter passengers
made up the remaining 11.3%
