August 2012 - an increase of 9.1% on the previous year
aircraft arrived at Birmingham continued throughout the
month resulting in the passengers numbers exceeding
"one million in a month" for the first time since 2009
Unfortunately this mini boom will be a one off and is
linked to the circumstances surrounding the planned
closure of bmibaby (which took in early September)
which has seen Monarch double up on many of their
routes/services for the peak summer season while at
the same time East Midlands Airport had already lost
a number of bmibaby routes/services
While September started strongly now that bmibaby
have ceased operations - with the loss of 4 Birmingham
based aircraft - and flybe and Monarch have added
additional services at East Midlands expect things
to rapidly return to normal
