Runway Watch - Friday 7 February 2014

Birmingham Airport relocated the threshold of Runway 33 over Wednesday night to a point some
300 metres to the south adjacent to holding point Echo 1 with the new approach/glide path to
Runway 33 coming into operation at 0600 on Thursday 6 February 2014

The new Runway 33 threshold - this change is part of the on-going work on the runway extension
and this will also be the new threshold when construction of extension is complete in Spring 2014

A wider view of the Runway Extension site including the Airport Terminal. On Thursday Runway 15
was in of use until the early evening when the runway changed to 33 and flight "Kestrel 97RJ" operated
Thomas Cook Boeing 757-236 G-TCBC became the first aircraft to use the new approach/glide path

On Friday 7 February 2014 Emirates Boeing 777-31HER A6-ABA operating flight "EK 039" was the
first wide bodied aircraft to make a daylight approach to Runway 33 and this sequence of images
illustrates the new threshold in operation

The aircraft passes over the new route of the A45 - Bickenhill church can be seen to the left....

.... then over the site of the Runway Extension

.... and over the new threshold markings adjacent to Taxiway Echo

.... almost there

.... the aircraft touches down adjacent to Taxiway Charlie

.... and right on the touchdown markings!

.... and then rolls past Taxiway Foxtrot

To put the new touchdown point in a wider context the next arrival was First Choice
Boeing 767-324ER G-OOBL operating the Thomson flight from Cancun, Mexico
