RAF Avia Saab 340AF YL-RAG was an early morning arrival
when it positioned in from Belfast to become BHX based. It
is now available for freight charter work together with their

of a short series of IT flights from Enfidha - from next week these
flights will be operated by a based Thomas Cook Boeing 757

Tower Watch - Wednesday 31 August 2011

Another day of significant progress on the new ATC Tower
- the steel framework at the top is starting to appear round
the other side of the tower while work has now commenced
on the service building at the base of the tower

Tuesday 30 August 2011 - Farnair ATR 72F HB-AFR makes first visit to BHX

Farnair Europe ATR 72-201F HB-AFR positioned in from Cologne
to operate a freight charter to Zweibrucken - its first visit to BHX
Tor Air/Balkan Holidays Airbus A320-212 LZ-BHB which had
operated a sub charter to/from Corfu for Sky Wings overnight
spent the day parked up on the 70's stands
bmi Airbus A320-232 G-MIDO operated the evening Lufthansa
service from Frankfurt replacing the usual based aircraft G-MIDS

Work has now commenced on attaching the frame work....
.... to the new Air Traffic Control tower that will
both support the Control Room at the top....
.... and give the new ATC Tower a distinctive shape
when the external cladding is added in due course

.... from Amsterdam - its first visit to BHX since being repainted
into "Skyteam" colours in 2010
Netjets Gulfstream 450 N468QS which had arrived on Sunday
evening spent the day parked up on the Elmdon apron....
.... while Gulfstream V N709AA made a brief morning visit

Hawker 900XP EI-JJJ was an afternoon visitor to the Elmdon apron
Air Berlin Boeing 737-86J D-ABKW operated their weekly
flight to Paderborn - its first visit to BHX
PIA Boeing 777-240ER AP-BHX operated their service from Islamabad
- it wears the Quetta - "Nature's Orchard" tail colour scheme
Swiss Avro RJ100 HB-IYU operated their evening service from Zurich
in place of the usual Helvetic Fokker 100 - it is in "Star Alliance" colours

- it wears the insignia of CD National by the front passenger door....
.... and was taking the team home after their defeat by Birmingham
City in the UEFA "Europa League" on Thursday evening
RAF C17 ZZ177 was a morning arrival operating a medevac flight....
.... it wears an additional tail insignia to mark the 10th anniversary
of C17 operations by 99 Squadron, RAF Brize Norton

Airport officially opened the £9.8 million Birmingham Airport
Travelodge hotel on Wednesday 24 August 2011
Situated on the Elmdon site over looking the runway, the new
200 room property is Travelodge's first hotel at the airport and
their 19th hotel in the Birmingham area
To celebrate the official opening Councillor Irene Chamberlain
cut the ribbon and officially declared the hotel open for business
before meeting the hotel team and taking a tour of the hotel

from Lisbon bringing in CD National of Funchal, Madeira, for their....
.... UEFA "Europa League" match against Birmingham City on
Thursday evening - the aircraft which is on its first visit to BHX
parked on Stand 76 and is staying over until Friday morning
Air Berlin Boeing 737-76J D-ABLE operated their flight
to Hannover in place of the usual Boeing 737-800
Nouvelair Tunisie Airbus A320-212 TS-INE operated their weekly
IT flight to Enfidha. It had previously visited on a Hajj flight in 2003
