Birmingham Airport handled 501,583 passengers duringJanuary 2012 - an decrease of 4.1% on the previous year

While business routes continue to perform well when it comes
to discretionary leisure travel people are just staying at home

During January significant growth was achieved on
scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Fuerteventura 158.6%, Faro 61.2%, Istanbul 50.7%,
Munich 31.3%, Stuttgart 23.7%, Shannon 15.7%,
Grenoble 15.7%, Cork 15.3% and Alicante 15.1%
.
Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Gambia 17.2%, Barbados 14.9% and Madeira 8.7%
.
Scheduled traffic accounted for 85.0% of the total
passenger traffic in January whilst charter passengers
made up the remaining 15.0%
.
Grenoble 15.7%, Cork 15.3% and Alicante 15.1%
.
