Thursday 7 January 2021 - Boeing 737-73W N946BC arrives for conversion to an E-7 Wedgetail for the RAF

Boeing 737-73W BBJ N946BC was an afternoon arrival from Bangor - the first aircraft for

conversion to an E-7 Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning aircraft for the Royal Air Force

.... the aircraft was previously operated as a Boeing BBJ by Deer Jet as B-5273 before

being acquired by Boeing and prepared at Georgetown, Delaware, from where it had

departed on Wednesday morning using flight number "BOE126" Photo Andrew Fellows

.... after night stopping at Bangor, Maine, it continued onto BHX for a late afternoon

arrival landing on Runway 33 and taxying to the STS Aviation Services hangar which

it soon disappeared into - it is due to enter service with the Royal Air Force in 2023

Air Express Sweden Fokker 100 SE-DUV operated

the early evening KLM service from Amsterdam

PIA used Boeing 777-340ER AP-BHW on their flight from

Islamabad in place of the usual 777-200. The aircraft

wears the Lahore "The Garden of Mughal" tail colour

scheme although it currently has an all white rudder

was the first wide bodied aircraft to depart on Birmingham Airport's "extended" runway
after it was declared operational at 0600 on Tuesday 27 May 2014 - this sequence of
images illustrates the "extended" runway and taxiway layout in operation....

.... after proceeding along Taxiway Echo the aircraft turns onto new Taxiway Sierra
- due to work in progress at the fuel farm an Ops vehicle escort is required here

.... the aircraft then proceeds along the new parallel Taxiway Sierra with the newly

extended and refurbished Long Stay Park Car and new Radar in the background

.... as the aircraft approaches the Sierra 1 holding point it passes the new Jet Blast Deflector

which is designed to protect vehicles using the new airside perimeter road from the jet blast

.... rotating/becoming airborne shortly after the aircraft passes Taxiway Lima

- the former cross Runway 06/24 - next stop Dubai!

Birmingham Airport and Blue City Aviation working together to support the National Health Service

Birmingham Airport and Blue City Aviation, a specialist cargo ground handler based
at the airport, are working together to support the National Health Service during
these challenging times in the fight again the coronavirus - COVID-19 - pandemic....

.... the airport has now handled 6 special cargo flights bringing in PPE and other
essential supplies for NHS the most recent on Tuesday, 5 May 2020, when a
Boeing 777 operated by Russian airline Royal Flight brought in 35 tonnes of PPE 

The aircraft originated in Hefei, China, and routed via Moscow to Birmingham were
a team was ready to unload the cargo of PPE - Personal Protective Equipment - ....

.... because of the current shortage of dedicated freight aircraft much of the cargo was
carried in the passenger cabin of this 428 seat airliner and had to been unloaded box by box

A fleet of lorries was on hand so the PPE could be transferred to the NHS without delay

After offloading Royal Flight Boeing 777-31HER VQ-BGL departed back to Moscow
- the aircraft had previously visited Birmingham when operated by Emirates as A6-EBF

Saturday 24 April 2010 - Air Armenia Antonov 12 EK-11001 charter to BHX!!

The after effects of the Volcanic Ash Cloud resulted in an exotic

movement to BHX - Air Armenia Antonov 12BK EK-11001

brought in a consignment of urgent freight that had been stranded

in Johannesburg routing via Luanda and Tamanrasset in Algeria

and arriving in the early hours of Saturday morning

After spending the day parked on the Elmdon apron....

.... it positioned out to Luxembourg lifting off Runway 15....

.... and climbing away as only an Antonov 12 can!!
