The Emirates Airbus A380 is coming to Birmingham from Sunday 27 March 2016 - when and where to see it

Emirates will be launching a daily Airbus A380 "super jumbo" flight from Dubai
to Birmingham Airport on Easter Sunday 27 March 2016....

.... the Airbus A380 will replace the Boeing 777-300ER on their lunch time
service and will arrive daily at 1220 - departing back to Dubai at 1420

During its daily visit to Birmingham the Emirates Airbus A380 will park at the
end of the International Pier on "Stand 54C"....

.... where an additional "double decker" air bridge has been installed to allow
passengers direct access to the upper deck of the Airbus A380

Where to see the Emirates Airbus A380

When Runway 15 is in use - aircraft landing from the north/taking off to the south

Sheldon Country Park surrounds the north end of the airfield and allows excellent views
of aircraft landing, taking off and on the runway with plenty of free car parking

The roof of the Multi Storey Car Park on the Elmdon/Sheldon side of the airport gives
panoramic views over the whole airfield and runway - it costs £3.50 for two hours

When Runway 33 is in use - aircraft landing from the south/taking off to the north

There is a network of public footpaths on the south side of the A45 - accessible from Catherine

de Barnes Lane/Clock Lane, Bickenhill, that give an excellent view of the South end of Runway 33

There is also an on-site "Viewing Area" in Car Park 5 that is right next to the Runway
and the Taxiway the Emirates Airbus A380 will use to depart

Beware - while this is the closest view you can get of an Airbus A380 anywhere
in the UK on-airport parking is expensive - it costs £4.70 an hour in this Car Park

NOTE - the Runway in use will be determined by the wind direction - if the wind is from the
North/West then Runway 33 will be use - from the South/East then Runway 15 will be used

Emirates to upgrade their lunchtime service to Dubai from Birmingham to an Airbus A380 from March 2016

Emirates has announced that it will be upgrading its EK039/040 lunchtime service between
Dubai and Birmingham to an Airbus A380 from Sunday 27 March 2016. This will be the first
time the iconic and much loved A380 "super jumbo" will fly a regular service from the region,
and comes as Emirates celebrates its 15th anniversary at Birmingham Airport

Airbus A380-861 A6-EDE visited on Wednesday 9 September 20009 to mark the
official opening of the International Pier and celebrate the Airport's 70th anniversary
It isn't the first time this aircraft has been to the Midlands based airport, in September 2009
it was flown in to be part of Birmingham Airport's 70th anniversary celebrations and for the
opening of the International Pier. This time it will be much more of a permanent feature as
Emirates will be replacing the current Boeing 777 to a two-class Airbus A380 on the lunchtime
service into Birmingham, carrying 557 passengers in Economy Class and 58 in Business Class

Birmingham will be the fifth route operating the new two-class A380 since it was unveiled at
the Dubai Airshow in November 2015 by Emirates. The upgrade will increase daily capacity
to and from the region by 15%, and means Emirates will now offer 77 A380 flights into the
UK each week, more than any other country on the Emirates network

Airbus A330-243 A6-EAA was named "City of Birmingham" for the inaugural flight
Emirates first launched its route to Birmingham Airport on Monday 18 December 2000 as
a daily service to Dubai, operated by a 278-seat Airbus A330. As passenger numbers have
risen, Emirates has added more services and larger aircraft to the route, including a third
daily service introduced his year. In the last 15 years, Emirates has carried over five million
passengers between Dubai and Birmingham, with over 500,000 travelling in 2015 so far

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Vice President, UK, said: "In 15 years of operating at Birmingham,
Emirates has experienced exceptional levels of growth driven by an increase in demand from
the Midlands. The A380 is hugely popular amongst our passengers as it provides a unique
level of service that has become synonymous with the Emirates brand. We are very excited
to be the first airline to introduce the iconic A380 into the region and look forward to more
of our customers enjoying the experience of flying on the world’s largest passenger aircraft"

A third daily early morning service was introduced on Saturday 1 August 2015
Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive of Birmingham Airport, said: "This is really great news for the
Airport and our community. The A380 will not only give an additional 188 seats a day from
Birmingham but will also offer customers that want to experience the magnificent A380
aircraft an opportunity to now do so from the Midlands region and I’m certain that the
service, just like the programme spanning 15 years from Birmingham Airport, will be hugely
successful. We would like thank Emirates for its commitment to our region and congratulate
the team on serving Birmingham to Dubai and beyond for 15 very fruitful years"

Passengers flying from the Midlands with Emirates can travel to Dubai and beyond, to an
ever expanding global network, including Bali, Multan and Mashhad which all launched in
2015. Popular destinations on the Emirates network from Birmingham include Dubai,
Islamabad, Bangkok, Mumbai and Hong Kong

Emirates to commence a third daily service from Dubai to Birmingham‏ Airport on 1 August 2015

Emirates has announced that it is to commence a third daily service from Dubai to Birmingham
Airport, becoming the first airline to offer a direct First Class service to the Midlands region

Commencing Saturday 1 August 2015, Emirates flight EK041, operated by a Boeing 777-300ER,
will depart Dubai International Airport at 0235hrs and arrive in Birmingham at 0705hrs. The
outbound flight, EK042, will depart Birmingham Airport at 0910hrs and arrive in Dubai at 1910hrs
- the additional service adds seven more inbound flights a week to Birmingham, increasing
passenger and cargo capacity on the route by 42 per cent

"Stepping up our presence in Birmingham will give customers across our network and across the
Midlands, greater flexibility in their travel plans. This is another significant investment in the UK
market and we look forward to offering further choice and excellent value for money to travellers
and businesses, including the cargo community", said Hubert Frach, Emirates’ Divisional Senior
Vice President, Commercial Operations West. "As part of our continued commitment, we’re excited
to become the only airline offering First Class to the region, with the introduction of our acclaimed
First Class Private Suites"

Emirates started flying to Birmingham in December 2000 when it launched the route with a daily
non-stop service, operated by a 278-seat Airbus A330. In the 14 years since, Emirates has carried
over 4.9 million passengers to and from Birmingham. Passengers flying from the Midlands can travel
to Dubai and beyond, to an ever expanding global network. Popular destinations on the Emirates
network from Birmingham include Dubai, Australia, India, Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong

Paul Kehoe, Birmingham Airport CEO, said: "Emirates’ decision to add a third daily service to Dubai
and beyond from Birmingham Airport clearly shows the strong demand that exists in the city and
the region for passengers who want connectivity to Dubai, Asia and Australia"

"Since the carrier began flying from Birmingham 14 years ago, passengers have been telling us
how much they value the route and the excellent service they receive, so today’s announcement
is great news for everyone. In addition to increased frequency, this new third service will operate
on a three class Boeing 777-300ER, meaning passengers will be able to experience their excellent
First Class suites, the first time it has been offered on this route"

The new daily service will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft in a three class configuration.
The added capacity provides eight Private Suites in First Class, 42 Business Class seats and 310
Economy Class seats per day, as well as 23 tonnes of additional cargo capacity per flight. Popular
commodities are expected to include; seafood, clothing, vehicle parts and foodstuffs

Emirates celebrates 10th anniversary at Birmingham Airport with continued growth

Emirates is celebrating 10 years of flights from Birmingham Airport
this Saturday 18 December 2010 with a leap in passenger numbers
.
Passengers increased by 15 per cent for the year to date compared
to the same period in 2009
.
The award-winning international airline first started flying from
Birmingham to Dubai in December 2000 when it launched the route
with a daily non-stop service, operated by a 278-seatAirbus A330
.
Now, after increasing to a double daily servicein 2005, Emirates
operates a pair of Boeing777-300ERs with a total of 870 seats each
day- trebling capacity since launch
.
Over its 10 year history at Birmingham, Emirates has carried
2.7 million passengers and 76 million kilos of cargo; and its route
to Dubai has recentlyovertaken Amsterdam, Edinburgh and
Paris to becomethe second largest from the airport in terms of
passengers carried
.
Laurie Berryman, Vice President UK & Ireland,Emirates, said:
"Our Birmingham service hasgone from strength-to-strength
since 2000 and has received tremendous support from people
across the region. This is demonstrated in our passenger figures
for the route which are now well on their way to hitting the three
million mark in total"
.
"The route has always proved a strong part of our UK operation
and this looks set to continue. With the lack of extra runway
capacity in the South East, Birmingham is in the perfect position
to respond to the "Heathrow Problem". These are exciting times
for both the airport and Emirates"
.
Paul Kehoe, CEO, Birmingham Airport, added:"Emirates' Birmingham
service is a real success story. It's grown from strength to strength,
with Dubai leaping from our 8th most popular route in 2006 to
second place this year"
.
"Its success is partly due to the strong Midlands market realising the
ease of flying to Dubai and beyond from their local airport but also
due tothe commitment that Emirates has shown to the region. We
look forward to further growth and perhaps seeing Dubai become
Birmingham'slargest destination in the coming years"
.
In the last nine months alone, Emirates has opened a new £1.3
million lounge at Birmingham Airport for its First Class and Business
Class passengers, as well as Gold Skywards members; and
increased capacity by 22 per cent over the summer by introducing
a larger Boeing 777-300ER aircraft onto its evening flight
.
Passengers flying with Emirates from the Midlands can travel to
Dubai and beyond to an ever expanding global network spanning
over 100 destinations across six continents. Popular destinations
from Birmingham include Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane
and Perth), India (ten cities), Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong

Emirates boosts capacity from Birmingham

Emirates (EK) is increasing the number of Business Class seats
out of Birmingham by 39 per cent this summer
.
From 1 June 2009, the award-winning international carrier is
introducing a second state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER on its
twice-daily services from Birmingham to Dubai, where passengers
can connect to onward destinations worldwide
.
The move increases the total number of Business Class seats
available every day from 69 to 96, and the number of Economy
from 651 to 710. It represents a total capacity increase across all
classes of just over 11 per cent
.
The new aircraft type is being introduced on the evening flight
from Birmingham, which departs daily at 9.20pm and is currently

is already operating on the lunchtime flight, which departs
Birmingham daily at 2.15pm
.
Laurie Berryman, Emirates manager for UK regions, said:
"Despite the challenging economic conditions, travellers in the
Midlands remain keenly aware of the benefits of Emirates'
worldwide network
.
"Over the last few months demand has continued to grow on
the Birmingham route, necessitating an increase in capacity to
meet the surge in passenger numbers
.
"Both services will be operating by the state-of-the-art
Boeing 777-300ER, which has Emirates latest ICE inflight
entertainment system on board"
.
Joe Kelly, Deputy CEO, Birmingham International Airport said:

it has gone from strength to strength, introducing a second daily
departure in 2005
.
"Emirates opens up access to Australia, the Far East and the
Indian Sub-Continent from Dubai, and this news will mean that
