United Airlines operate their final service to Newark from Birmingham on Thursday 5 October 2017

United Airlines operated their final service from Birmingham to Newark New York
on Thursday 5 October 2017 with the Airport Fire Service marking this with a water
cannon salute as the aircraft taxied out for departure off Runway 33....

.... in return United Boeing 757 N18112 rolled its wings in salute

.... as it climbed away over Birmingham city centre

Continental Airlines - which merged with United Airlines in 2010 - commenced the route
back on Tuesday 15 July 1997 when Boeing 757 N12114 operated the inaugural flight

- Boeing 767's and Douglas DC10's have also been used on the route over the years
which at its peak was operated on a twice daily basis using Boeing 757's

United Airlines to cease their service from Newark New York to Birmingham Airport on 5 October 2017

United Airlines have announced that they will cease operating their daily non-stop
service from Newark New York to Birmingham Airport on Thursday 5 October 2017

Continental Airlines - which merged with United Airlines in 2010 - commenced the route
back on Tuesday 15 July 1997 when Boeing 757 N12114 operated the inaugural flight
- Boeing 767's and Douglas DC10's have also been used on the route over the years
which at its peak was operated on a twice daily basis using Boeing 757's

This announcement comes just 6 months after American Airlines dropped their daily
non-stop service from Birmingham Airport to New York JFK on Friday 6 January 2017

"One stop" connecting services from Birmingham Airport to the USA and Canada are
available using the services of Aer Lingus, Air France, Brussels Airlines, Icelandair,
KLM, Lufthansa, Scandinavian SAS, Swiss Air Lines and their code share Partners

United hits the two million passenger milestone in Twentieth Year of Birmingham - New York flights

United Airlines have announced that more than two million passengers have now
flown between Birmingham Airport and New York Newark Liberty Airport as the
airline approaches its twentieth anniversary serving the route

Operating non-stop transatlantic flights from Birmingham Airport since Tuesday
15 July 1997, United Airlines provides direct access to New York Newark, with
onward connections to over 300 destinations throughout North, Central and South
America and the Caribbean, including more than 100 served non-stop from Newark
Airport. Popular onward destinations taken by Birmingham Airport passengers
include Las Vegas, San Francisco and Los Angeles

Commenting on these milestones, William Pearson, Aviation Director for Birmingham
Airport, said: "United Airlines serves vital transatlantic connections for the region's
business and leisure communities and has shown unwavering commitment to
Birmingham over the last twenty years. Providing non-stop flights to New York gives
customers a reliable service and flexibility with a Star Alliance airline, boosting our
economy by plugging the Midlands Engine into global opportunities"

thank all of our customers who have chosen to fly with us during this time," said
Bob Schumacher, United's Managing Director Sales - U.K. & Ireland. Our non-stop
service offers customers in the Midlands access not only to New York City but also to
hundreds of other destinations throughout the Americas via United's Newark hub"

Flight UA026 departs Birmingham daily at 0900 and arrives at New York Newark at
1225 the same day. The return flight, UA027, departs New York Newark daily at
1925 and arrives in Birmingham at 0710 the next day - all times local

The flights from Birmingham are operated by Boeing 757-200 aircraft featuring
169 seats - 16 in United BusinessFirst® and 153 in United Economy®, including
45 Economy Plus® seats with added legroom

United Airlines hosts event to celebrate 15 Years of flying from Birmingham Airport to New York/Newark

United Airlines' celebrity chef James 'Chef Jimmy' Canora entertained the airline's customers
at Warwick Castle on Thursday 8th November 2012 in celebration of 15 years' service from
Birmingham to New York/Newark

Since United inaugurated its New York/Newark daily nonstop service in 1997, more than 1.5
million customers have travelled on the route. The flights are conveniently timed to provide
connections beyond New York/Newark to cities across North, Central and South America and
the Caribbean. From its Newark Liberty hub, United offers flights to more than 300 destinations
across the Americas including more than 100 served nonstop


The Airport Fire Service were on hand to mark the celebration of the 15th
anniversary of United Airlines service to Birmingham back on 12 July 2012

United Airlines celebrates 15th anniversary of Birmingham - Newark, New York service

United Airlines has celebrated the 15th anniversary of their
daily service between Birmingham and Newark, New York
with the help of a Marilyn Monroe look-alike
.
Continental Airlines - which merged with United Airlines in
2010 - commenced the route back on Tuesday 15 July 1997
when Boeing 757 N12114 operated the inaugural flight
.
Passengers travelling on flight UA 027 to Newark, New York,
were joined by Bob Schumacher, United's Managing Director
Sales UK & Ireland who cut the birthday cake!
.
"We are proud to have served Birmingham for 15 years and
we thank the many customers who have flown with us during
that time," said Schumacher. "We owe our success to the
important Partnerships with trade and corporate customers
we have built over the past decade and a half, as well as the
hard work and dedication of our local sales and operations teams"
.
Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive Officer, Birmingham Airport,
said: "It is fantastic that we have today celebrated the 15th
anniversary of the United Airlines service from Birmingham
to Newark. This service has gone from strength to strength
over the years and we are looking forward to working closely
with United to welcome millions of more passengers on the route"

Boeing 757-224 N17128 operated today's flight with the
aircraft receiving a water canon "salute" from the Airport
Fire Service on its departure back to Newark

Continental are now United!!

The merger between Continental and United completed
on Friday 1 October 2010 - with both airlines are now owned
by a new holding company United Continental Holdings
.
The newly merged operation will fly under the United name
- while both airlines will continue to operate separately in the
short term they have already started repainting the aircraft
in the new colours which is based on the Continental scheme
so it will not be long before United are seen at BHX
.
The daily Birmingham - Newark New York Boeing 757 service
continues to operate as usual under Continental - CO - flight
codes with the two airlines planning to have fully intergrated
their operations by Spring 2011
.
