December 2010 passenger figures

Birmingham Airport handled 490,714 passengers during
December 2010 - a fall of 11.0% on the previous year
.
As a result BHX handled 8,577,822 passengers in 2010,
a fall of 5.8% compared with 2009
.
The combination of the adverse weather - both in the UK
and Europe - and the Spanish ATC strike at the start of
the month resulted in numerous flight cancellations
.
During December significant growth was achieved on
scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Malta 52.3%, Brussels 33.5%, Arrecife 29.5%,
Milan 28.8%, Gothenburg 27.9%, Krakow 22.4%,
Stuttgart 19.3%, Ashkhabad 15.3%, Dubai 14.6%
.
Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Finland 33.0%, Austria 24.1% and Mexico 17.8%
.
Scheduled traffic accounted for 85.5% of the total
passenger traffic in December whilst charter passengers
made up the remaining 14.5%
.
