May 2012 passenger figures at Birmingham

Birmingham Airport handled 790,819 passengers during
May 2012 - an increase of 1.5% on the previous year
.
This was another very encouraging result - while the
late Bank Holiday (for the Jubilee) pushed some holiday
traffic back into June the main summer season got off
to a strong start helped by all the new routes and the
additional based aircraft
.
While there was the now inevitable decline in charter
/IT traffic - not helped by some flights not starting to
the end of the month - this was more than set off by
the growth in scheduled services
.
June - with the added benefit of the Jubilee weekend -
has got off to a strong start and is already well on the
way to being another positive month
.
During May significant growth was achieved
on scheduled flights to destinations such as -
Hamburg 96.0%, Istanbul 80.5%, Dalaman 77.0%,
Larnaca 42.5%, Paphos 39.9%, Milan 39.7%,
Katowice 37.0%, Gerona 35.8%, Palma 30.2%,
Nice 30.0%, Knock 24.2% and Waterford 21.6%
.
Charter traffic which experience growth included -
Tunisia 60.2%, Jamaica 17.9% and Madeira 17.8%
.
Scheduled traffic accounted for 80.9% of the total
passenger traffic in May whilst charter passengers
made up the remaining 19.1%
